Mobilegeddon: Google Mobile Friendly Update Arrives

Mobilegeddon Googles Mobile Friendly Update Arrives

Well… if you’re sites still not mobile friendly, then we guess it’s not too late to tell you “We told you so.” If you don’t remember, back in March we told you about the pending Google Mobile Friendly Update rolling out.

Well today is Mobilegeddon day and guess what? Google rolled out their mobile-friendly update as promised.

What To Expect

First of all this is a worldwide rollout that’s impacting all users and languages, so it’s a pretty big deal. Secondly, it “only impacts” mobile search results.

As Google puts it “We’re boosting the ranking of mobile-friendly pages on mobile search results. Now searchers can more easily find high-quality and relevant results where text is readable without tapping or zooming, tap targets are spaced appropriately, and the page avoids unplayable content or horizontal scrolling.

But don’t worry; all is not lost just yet. Although Google’s mobile-friendly update is important, they still use hundreds of other signals to rank search results. As always the intent of the search query is still a very strong signal, so it’s still possible for pages with high quality content that are not mobile-friendly to still rank high.

Mobile-Friendly Web Sites

Regardless of how things look great content is still great content, which means you still have time to get your site mobile-friendly.  And that’s why we’ve rolled out our mobile responsive design testing tool. The tool will help you see how your site looks across different device sizes.

Although your site may not look pretty across all devices today, don’t wait forever to make your site mobile-friendly. Eventually someone else will create great content on a site that is mobile-friendly and your page will no longer hold it’s ranking. And don’t forget, the best way to see if you’re impacted by the Mobilegeddon update is to check your sites mobile search results in Google Analytics.

By the way, if you’re really worried about a page and what Google thinks, you can examine individual pages with Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test check.
